Big and Tall

Clothing comes in sizes so why not hammocks? The Explorer models are perfect for anyone 6' and taller — the Explorer Ultralite for weights up to 250 lbs. and the Explorer Deluxe for weights up to 300 lbs. With the new Asym shape, every possible inch of shoulder room is provided by the hammock body fabric and fly coverage is proportionally 30% greater than earlier models. The Safari Deluxe is suitable for weights up to 350 lbs. This model also has a newly designed “double-wide” PU coated polyester fly which will provide the most ample weather protection of any hammock. There’ll be room for you, your gear and even your dog, too!  These comfortable models also offer more room inside the hammock for gear.

There is a loop in the ridge line at each end of the hammock which is perfect for securing a small daypack or stuff sack (your hammock storage bag, for example) inside the hammock, safe and out of the way.

LETTERS FROM BIG AND TALL CAMPERS

Howdy from Texas!

I just wanted to send a short note telling you how impressed I am with the quality and ingenuity of the Explorer Deluxe I purchased earlier this year. As a 6'2" and 255 lb. hiker, I could not put much faith in other hammocks but I decided to spend a little extra in the Explorer Deluxe. Two weeks ago I really got to put that thin little tarp to the test in Arkansas. The thunderstorms started at 8 pm and continued solid until 9 am the next morning. The whole time I was cocooned in this hammock feeling very small and insignificant while being pounded by the nature's wrath. Yet I stayed dry and warm (thanks for the space blanket tip from your site). According the the Park Ranger, the US Geological Dept. said I had just rode out a 100 year flood!

Hi Tom

"I keep looking at different hammock styles searching for the 'perfect' design.  I think I've found it!  I am 6 feet 4 inches tall and weigh 225 pounds (102 kg), so finding a suitable hammock isn't easy.  I bought mine at REI in Atlanta.  Even though they had it suspended from the ceiling so that it wouldn't let me lie flat, I could tell that it is a great design!  I can't wait to get it home and set it up properly.

"I am a large woman, 5'7" and 235 pounds. I was reluctant to climb into your hammock, feeling it would be both claustrophobic and much too lightweight to hold me. Recently, however, on an Easter kayak/camping trip on Indian Arm where it was cold and rainy the whole trip I changed my mind. The new hammock is for me. This was the first time I have ever slept on a camping trip--ever. And I slept so well I talked Rob into letting me use the hammock again the next night. Once again I slept well. I put a space blanket under my sleeping pad and opened my sleeping bag to use like a comforter. I was wonderfully warm and cozy.

If I have a choice I don't think I'll ever try sleeping on the ground again. When we got back home and I was drying out the gear I examined the hammock carefully. I couldn't find any indication at all of undue strain from holding my weight. Amazing for a product so light in weight and small in size!"

Mr. Hennessy

I am a big guy at 130kg, nearly 300pounds and 20 years ago I had a back operation. I have never really slept well since. I like to get out and go for a walk in the Australian wilderness when I can but avoid doing overnighters as I find sleeping on thin camp matresses very painfull. Last night, I tried out my Hennessy Hammock for the first time. I walked into a wilderness area of the Blue Mountains and set up the Hammock, about 5 mins work the first time. Quicker next time I'm sure. Being the middle of winter here in Australia, it gets dark at around 6.00pm. Being in the wilderness by myself, I had nothing better to do but to get in the hammock and read an ebook on the palm pilot. I dozed off after about a page. Woke up a couple of times and put wood on the fire, falling back to sleep instantly each time. Morning came a round and I avoided getting up as I was just to comfortable. I checked the watch and found that it was 7.30am. I had slept 13 hours! This from someone who struggles to sleep at the best of times.

You have a truly fantastic product.

Regards
Mark

To Hennessy Hammock

I just wanted to let you guys know that your hammocks rock! I have the Classic Explorer Deluxe, and slept extremely comfortably on my recent two week trip to the rainforest in Guyana. The rain-fly kept the pouring rain off perfectly, and even though I am 6' 9" I fit in the hammock with plenty of room to spare.  The design of the hammock is incredible, I don't know how you guys pulled it off! I especially liked the Velcro system on the bottom, which closed itself as though it were magic every time I slipped into the hammock. A couple of my colleagues had the zipper system, which worked well for them as well, although I'm glad I have the Velcro  Set up and packing down went extremely fast, and I have no complaints about my experience with the hammocks at all, so thanks a lot  I've attached a picture of my set up hammock in the forest, if you'd like a higher resolution version don't hesitate to let me know.

Thanks for the fantastic hammock and sleeping experience!

Sincerely,
Christopher
